Method

How Systemrelay Grid builds ESG factor comparisons for listed companies — from peer-set lock to committee brief.

Designed for comparability

ESG factor comparison fails when each company is described with a different yardstick. Our method locks definitions first, gathers the same classes of disclosure for every issuer in the peer set, then writes where the filings diverge.

  1. Peer-set lock

You nominate listed companies (or a sector shortlist we refine together). We record tickers, primary exchange, reporting currency of disclosures, and any issuers excluded with reasons. Peer sets usually stay between four and eight names so the comparison stays readable.

  2. Factor charter

Together we choose a short factor list tied to the mandate — for example greenhouse-gas disclosure completeness, water stress commentary, workforce safety metrics, board independence, auditor tenure, or controversy severity. Each factor gets a one-paragraph definition before drafting begins.

  3. Source pass

We read annual reports, sustainability reports, exchange filings, AGM materials, and dated news on controversies for the agreed window. Where Thai- and English-language documents differ in detail, we note which version carried the fuller disclosure.

  4. Matrix and narrative

A factor matrix records presence, quality, and gaps. Narrative pages explain the largest spreads between issuers without collapsing everything into a single score. Citations point to document and page or filing date.

  5. Second read and delivery

A second reader checks that definitions were applied evenly. You receive a PDF memo, editable tables, and a one-page committee brief. An optional walkthrough answers definition questions before your meeting.

What we refuse

We do not invent scores to mimic rating agencies, hide weak disclosure behind polished language, or stretch a factor definition mid-project to favour one issuer. If a factor cannot be observed from public sources for most of the peer set, we drop or rewrite it rather than guess.

Tie-in to engagements

The method underpins our ESG Peer Comparison Report. Sector Materiality Briefings stop after recommending a factor shortlist. Governance & Controversy Reviews deepen board and controversy rows when votes or engagement letters are near.

Bring a peer set

If you already know the listed companies, send them with the factors you care about.
